PIP — What Counts as Evidence

Strong evidence significantly improves your chances. Include: letters from your GP, consultant or specialist; hospital discharge letters; medication lists; care plans; occupational therapist or physiotherapist reports; letters from social workers; and statements from carers or family members. The key is to describe your worst days — assessors need to understand how your condition affects you on a difficult day, not your best day. Many successful claimants seek help completing the PIP2 form from Citizens Advice or Scope.

Challenging a PIP Decision

If you disagree with a PIP decision, first request a Mandatory Reconsideration — this is compulsory before you can appeal. Request it within 1 month of the decision. If the Mandatory Reconsideration doesn't change the decision, appeal to an independent tribunal. Statistics show that approximately 70% of PIP appeals that go to tribunal succeed. Always get support from Citizens Advice or a welfare rights adviser before appealing.

KAELTRIPTON VERDICT
PIP at up to £194.60/week (both enhanced components) is one of the most valuable disability benefits available. It is not means-tested — income, savings and employment status do not affect eligibility. The assessment is rigorous but approximately 70% of tribunal appeals succeed. Apply as soon as you think you may qualify — do not wait. Get help from Citizens Advice completing the PIP2 form.
