What is changing from 28 August 2026
From 28 August 2026, HM Land Registry is adding Unique Property Reference Numbers (UPRNs) and INSPIRE IDs to the monthly Price Paid Data in separate lookup tables. These trusted identifiers make it far easier to match a sale record to a specific property and to link it with other property and location datasets, so you can follow one home's full transaction history rather than relying on the address alone. The lookup tables apply to data published from 28 August onwards and are not added to previously published datasets.
What UPRNs and INSPIRE IDs are
A UPRN is a unique reference number given to every addressable location in Great Britain. Local authorities create and assign them, pass them to GeoPlace, and they flow into Ordnance Survey's address products. An INSPIRE ID relates to the index polygon that shows the indicative boundary of a registered freehold property. Together they let researchers, lenders, property professionals and members of the public connect a sale price to a precise property and its boundary, rather than guessing from a text address.
What Price Paid Data does not tell you
Price Paid Data shows what a property actually sold for, not what it is worth today. Sale prices reflect the condition, tenure and timing of each transaction, so they are a guide to the market rather than a valuation. There is also a lag: it typically takes two weeks to two months for a sale to be registered and appear, so the two most recent months are incomplete. For a purchase, use Price Paid Data alongside a mortgage valuation, a survey and your conveyancer's checks.
