Schengen visa applications from the UK are submitted in person at an application centre operated by one of three outsourced providers (TLScontact, VFS Global, or BLS International) or directly at a country's embassy or High Commission. Coverage varies sharply by city: London serves all 26 Schengen countries, while Manchester, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast cover progressively fewer.
This page lists every UK city with at least one Schengen visa application centre, the providers operating there, and the countries each centre serves. Confirm provider arrangements on the relevant embassy or provider website before booking, as routing changes occasionally.
Key Facts
- Cities with at least one Schengen centre: London, Manchester, Edinburgh
- Countries serviced from London: all 26 Schengen states
- Countries serviced from Manchester: 6 (Spain, France, Greece, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland)
- Countries serviced from Edinburgh: 8 (France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland)

London
London has the deepest Schengen application capacity in the UK. Every Schengen member state can be applied for from a London centre, embassy or High Commission. The three outsourced providers (TLScontact, VFS Global, BLS International) each operate from London locations, and several embassies process applications directly at their consular section.
TLScontact (Wandsworth, South West London). Handles applications for France, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein (via Switzerland). The Wandsworth centre offers premium services including Premium Lounge, Prime Time Appointment, and mobile biometric collection at the applicant's address or office.
VFS Global (multiple London sites). Operates Schengen visa application centres for the majority of Schengen states, including Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway (biometrics only), Poland, Portugal, Sweden and others. Specific centre addresses vary by destination country and are confirmed at the time of booking.
BLS International (20 St Andrew Street, EC4A 3AG). Spain's outsourced provider for Schengen visa applications. London serves applicants resident in most of England and Wales under Spain's consular jurisdiction model.
Direct embassy or High Commission processing. Several countries process Schengen applications directly at their London diplomatic missions, including Estonia, Iceland, Slovakia and Slovenia. The Malta High Commission at Malta House (36-38 Piccadilly, W1J 0LE) administers Malta short-stay applications, with routing through a designated visa application centre also referenced by Maltese consular guidance.
Manchester
Manchester hosts a smaller selection of Schengen application centres. Coverage is concentrated around the most heavily applied for countries from northern England and Scotland.
TLScontact Manchester. Serves France applications. UK residents can submit at any TLScontact France centre regardless of postcode, with no consular jurisdiction restriction.
BLS International Manchester (Suite 12, 8th Floor, St James's House, Pendleton Way, Salford, M6 5FW). Spain visa application centre serving applicants resident in Cleveland, Cumbria, Durham, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, North Yorkshire, Northumberland, Tyne & Wear and West Yorkshire under Spain's consular jurisdiction. Manchester applications require courier-only passport return (additional postage fee).
VFS Global Manchester. Handles applications for Greece, Norway (biometrics), Sweden and Switzerland from north of England locations, alongside select other Schengen destinations on a country-by-country basis.
Edinburgh
Edinburgh serves Scotland and Northern Ireland for several Schengen destinations.
TLScontact Edinburgh. France applications, available to applicants resident anywhere in the UK with no consular jurisdiction restriction.
BLS International Edinburgh (6 Dock Place, Suite 1A, First Floor Office, EH6 6LU). Spain visa application centre. Like Manchester, Edinburgh requires courier delivery for passport return (no in-person collection).
VFS Global Edinburgh. Operates centres for Germany, Italy, Netherlands and several other Schengen countries from Scottish locations. Specific country coverage and centre addresses are confirmed at booking.
Cardiff, Belfast and elsewhere
Cardiff and Belfast do not currently host dedicated Schengen visa application centres. UK residents in Wales and Northern Ireland generally apply at London, or at Edinburgh where consular jurisdiction permits. Some countries permit no-residency-restriction free choice of UK centre (France via TLScontact), in which case the nearest centre by travel time may be preferable. Other countries (Spain, Italy) apply postcode-based consular jurisdiction that determines the eligible centre.
How consular jurisdiction works
Several Schengen states allocate UK applicants to a specific centre based on UK residence postcode. This is called consular jurisdiction. Spain operates the most explicit jurisdiction system: northern English counties are assigned to Manchester, Scotland and Northern Ireland to Edinburgh, and most of England and Wales to London. Italy and a small number of other states apply similar postcode-based allocations.
Other countries, including France through TLScontact, explicitly permit applicants to submit at any UK centre regardless of postcode. The application provider's portal confirms eligibility before payment and biometric scheduling.
For applicants outside the standard catchment of any UK centre, premium services including mobile biometric collection (provider visits the applicant's location) are offered by several providers at additional cost.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I apply for a Schengen visa from any UK city?
It depends on the destination country. Some Schengen states (France via TLScontact) permit free choice of UK application centre with no postcode restriction. Others (Spain, Italy) apply consular jurisdiction, which assigns applicants to a specific centre based on UK residence. Most applicants in Wales, Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and rural England apply at London for countries without a regional centre.
Which UK city has the most Schengen application centres?
London. All 26 Schengen countries can be applied for from a London centre, embassy or High Commission. London hosts every outsourced provider operating in the UK (TLScontact, VFS Global, BLS International) plus all Schengen diplomatic missions that process applications directly.
Are there Schengen visa centres in Cardiff or Belfast?
Not at present. Welsh and Northern Irish applicants generally apply at London, or at Edinburgh where the destination country permits. A small number of providers offer mobile biometric collection at an additional fee, where a provider agent attends the applicant's home or office to collect documents and capture biometrics.
What is consular jurisdiction?
Consular jurisdiction is the rule by which a destination country allocates UK applicants to a specific application centre based on the applicant's UK residence postcode. Spain operates a defined jurisdiction system with three centres (London, Manchester, Edinburgh) covering specific UK regions. Other countries either apply jurisdiction implicitly through provider routing or explicitly waive it (France permits free choice of any UK TLScontact centre).
Can I choose a different UK centre to get an earlier slot?
Only if the destination country permits free choice of centre, as France does through TLScontact. Where consular jurisdiction applies (Spain, Italy and others), applicants are restricted to the centre serving their UK postcode. Third-party agents offering to bypass consular jurisdiction have no privileged access and may not be able to deliver what is advertised.
