This directory lists every Schengen embassy and outsourced application provider serving UK residents, with provider routing, current published fees, and processing windows. No appointment booking is sold here, no commission is taken, and no third-party agent has paid for placement. How Schengen visa applications work from the UK
If a UK passport holder is travelling to one or more Schengen countries for a short stay of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, no visa is required. From late 2026, an ETIAS travel authorisation will be required, but that is not a visa.
If a UK resident holds a passport from a country whose nationals require a Schengen visa, an application must be lodged from the UK before travel. The country to apply to is determined by where the most nights are spent in Schengen. If nights are equal across two or more countries, the first point of entry takes the application.
Each Schengen member state has its own UK application route. Most outsource document collection and biometrics to one of three providers: TLScontact, VFS Global, or BLS International. A few process applications directly at the embassy or consulate. A small number of states are represented by another country's consular network in the UK, in which case the application is made via the representing country's provider.
The fee for a standard adult short-stay Schengen visa has been €90 since 11 June 2024. Children aged 6 to 11 pay €45. Children under 6 are exempt. Application provider service fees are additional and vary by provider and centre.
Slot availability and timing
Appointment availability varies sharply by country and season. Mediterranean destinations such as Spain, Greece, Italy and Portugal see the heaviest demand May to September. Germany and Switzerland are consistently constrained for business travellers September to November. France typically sees pre-Christmas pressure as families plan winter visits.
Third-party services that charge to find or book Schengen visa appointments have no privileged access to any provider's slot inventory. TLScontact, VFS Global and BLS International all release slots through their own portals only. The legitimate route to a faster appointment when standard slots are unavailable is each provider's published premium or priority service, where offered.
