Ofgem confirmed on 27 May 2026 a 13% rise in the default-tariff cap from 1 July to 30 September 2026, bringing a typical dual-fuel direct-debit bill to £1,663 (or £1,862 like-for-like against the current £1,641). Electricity rises about 5%, gas about 24%.
With the standard variable tariff now firmly above £1,663, fixed deals priced below the new cap become more attractive. The reviews below were updated for cap changes; check each supplier's current fix against your projected July to September usage.
