Sky Broadband Review UK 2026 - Speeds, Prices and Is It Worth It?

Sky Broadband is one of the UK's largest residential internet providers, serving around 6 million customers across part-fibre and full-fibre packages. In Ofcom's Q4 2025 complaints data, Sky was among the least complained-about pay-TV providers and recorded below-average broadband complaints. This review covers Sky's current packages and verified prices sourced from sky.com (May 2026), contract terms, the April 2026 price rise, and how Sky compares to BT, Virgin Media and Vodafone on speed, complaints and value.

The most important checks before switching to Sky are whether full-fibre is available at your address, what the true monthly cost is after the introductory period ends, and what Ofcom's Q4 2025 data shows about Sky's complaint record. All three are covered below with primary-source figures.

Standard prices sourced from sky.com May 2026. New customer introductory prices are lower - always check sky.com with your postcode. Full Fibre 75 and above available to approximately 60% of UK homes. Gigafast+ (2.5Gbps and 5Gbps) available to approximately 12% of UK homes. All packages on 24-month minimum term. Setup fee of £9.95 router delivery plus £10 activation fee may apply. Prices may change during the minimum term.

April 2026 Price Rise - What You Need to Know
Sky confirmed a flat £3/month broadband increase effective 1 April 2026. Sky Cinema rose by £1/month. Triple Play packages rose by £3/month. Customers who signed up from 4 February 2026 had the April rise disclosed at sign-up and do not have an automatic right to exit for that specific increase. Customers on older inflation-linked contracts retain the right to exit penalty-free. Any future mid-contract rise gives a 30-day penalty-free exit window. Tip: call Sky retentions before cancelling as they often match new-customer pricing to keep existing customers.

Sky TV Bundles

Sky's main differentiator is its TV offering. All TV plans use Sky Stream (a puck loaned free, returned at cancellation) or Sky Glass (an integrated TV set). No satellite dish is required.

TV PackageKey Content Included
Sky Essential TVSky Atlantic, Netflix Standard with Ads, Discovery+ Entertainment, 100+ channels
Sky Ultimate TVEverything in Essential plus HBO Max Basic with Ads, Disney+ Standard with Ads, selected Hayu content
Sky Sports (all channels)Premier League, F1, cricket, golf, boxing - separate add-on
Sky CinemaLatest releases, Paramount+ - separate add-on (rose £1/mo April 2026)

What Is Included as Standard

  • Sky Hub router - loaned free, must be returned on cancellation. New customers receive the Sky Broadband Hub (WiFi 5) as standard. WiFi Max add-on (usually £3-4/mo extra) provides the Sky Max Hub with WiFi 6 and WPA3. Gigafast+ customers in eligible areas may receive the Gigafast+ Hub with WiFi 7.
  • Sky Broadband Shield - free parental controls and malware filtering, manageable per device via the My Sky app.
  • Truly unlimited data - no fair-usage cap or traffic throttling on any package.
  • Speed Guarantee - if download speed drops below your guaranteed minimum for three consecutive days, you have the right to exit without early termination charges.
  • 24/7 customer support - phone, app and online. Sky claims to be the only major UK broadband provider with 24/7 real-person switching support (verify at sky.com/switchsupport).
  • One Touch Switching - Sky handles cancelling your old provider. No need to contact your old provider yourself.
  • Up to £200 switching credit - if your previous provider charges exit fees after you leave, Sky credits up to £200 to your account. Proof of payment required within 90 days of Sky activation.
  • Sky Broadband Basics - social tariff at £20/month for customers on certain benefits including Universal Credit. No early exit fees on this plan.

Sky Broadband Speeds - How Fast Is It?

Sky's Superfast products run on Openreach's part-fibre FTTC or SoGEA network - fibre to the street cabinet, copper to the home. Full Fibre runs fibre all the way to your property, giving more consistent speeds regardless of distance from the cabinet. Gigafast+ at 2.5Gbps and 5Gbps uses full-fibre infrastructure and is available to approximately 12% of UK homes.

PackageSuitable ForNot Ideal For
Superfast 35-67 Mbps1-2 users, browsing, HD streamingMultiple 4K streams, larger households
Full Fibre 150 Mbps3-5 users, 4K streaming, working from homeHeavy daily uploads, symmetric speeds
Full Fibre 300-500 Mbps5+ users, gaming, smart home, multiple 4KMost households will not need more
Gigafast 900 MbpsPower users, home offices, future-proofingOverkill for most homes currently
Gigafast+ 2.5-5 GbpsHome server, extreme gaming, 8K, enterprise-gradeAvailable to 12% of UK homes only

Upload speeds on Sky's Full Fibre plans are asymmetric below Gigafast+ tier. The Full Fibre 150 delivers 150 Mbps down but only 27 Mbps up. The 2.5 Gigafast+ and 5 Gigafast+ packages offer symmetric speeds (2,500/2,500 Mbps and 5,000/5,000 Mbps respectively). If symmetric upload is important - for video production, large cloud backups, or remote working - check whether Gigafast+ is available at your address before committing.

Customer Satisfaction - Ofcom Q4 2025 Complaints Data

Ofcom published Q4 2025 complaints data in May 2026 covering October to December 2025. For fixed broadband, TalkTalk and Vodafone generated the most complaints. The least complained-about broadband providers were Plusnet and Virgin Media. Sky was not cited among the worst performers. For pay-TV, EE generated the most complaints; Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin Media were among the least complained-about pay-TV providers.

Sky Mobile note: Sky's broadband and pay-TV complaints record is strong, but Sky Mobile remains among the most complained-about mobile networks. Research Sky Mobile separately before bundling.

Sky vs Virgin Media (Q4 2025 update): Virgin Media improved significantly in Q4 2025, becoming joint-least complained-about for broadband alongside Plusnet. Both are now broadly comparable on complaints. Sky retains the advantage on TV content. Virgin still offers faster top-end speeds (2 Gbps vs Sky's 5 Gbps Gigafast+ which is available to far fewer homes). For most households, the choice between Sky and Virgin comes down to TV bundle versus price.

Sky vs BT/EE: Both use Openreach for most connections. BT/EE generated above-average broadband complaints in Q4 2025 while Sky did not. Sky has the better TV bundle. BT/EE max speed is 1.6 Gbps vs Sky's 5 Gbps but the latter requires Gigafast+ availability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Sky broadband any good in 2026?

Sky's complaints record is strong. Ofcom's Q4 2025 data (published May 2026) shows Sky was not among the worst-performing broadband providers and was among the least complained-about for pay-TV. Full fibre speeds are reliable, Sky offers speeds up to 5 Gbps from Gigafast+, and 24/7 real-person support is available. It is not the cheapest broadband-only option.

What are Sky's current broadband prices in May 2026?

Standard prices sourced from sky.com (May 2026) range from £44/mo (Full Fibre 100) to £88/mo (Full Fibre 5 Gigafast+). New customer introductory prices are lower. A setup fee of up to £19.95 may apply. All packages are on a 24-month minimum term. Always check sky.com with your postcode as availability and pricing vary by address.

Can I leave Sky because of the April 2026 price rise?

It depends on when you signed up. Customers who signed from 4 February 2026 had the April rise disclosed at sign-up and are unlikely to have a penalty-free exit right for that specific increase. Customers on older inflation-linked contracts retain the right to exit penalty-free. Any future mid-contract rise Sky announces gives you a 30-day exit window.

Does Sky broadband require a phone line?

Full Fibre packages do not use a traditional copper phone line for data. All Sky packages include a digital Internet Calls service (Sky Pay As You Talk at £0/month) as standard. This is included in the base price and does not require a separate line rental payment. Some customers who are reliant on their landline for emergency services are not eligible for full-fibre products - see sky.com terms.

How does Sky compare to Virgin Media in 2026?

Virgin Media improved significantly in Ofcom's Q4 2025 data, becoming joint-least complained-about for broadband alongside Plusnet. Both Sky and Virgin are now broadly comparable on complaints performance. Sky has the stronger TV bundle. Virgin's top speed is 2 Gbps (Gig2) though Sky now offers 5 Gbps via Gigafast+ where available. For most households the choice comes down to TV bundle preference versus price.

What is Sky's social tariff?

Sky Broadband Basics is available to customers on certain qualifying benefits including Universal Credit. It costs £20/month on a 24-month contract. No early exit fees apply to this plan. Check sky.com for the current list of qualifying benefits.

What is the Sky WiFi Max add-on?

WiFi Max is an optional add-on (usually £3-4/month extra) that provides the Sky Max Hub with WiFi 6 and WPA3 security, plus up to 3 Sky Max Pods for room-by-room coverage. It includes a WiFi Guarantee: if speed does not reach at least 10 Mbps (or 25 Mbps on higher-tier packages) in every room, you can claim money back or cancel the add-on. Not available with Ultrafast packages.
