What the law requires
Gas and competence registers
Gas work must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and landlords must have an annual safety check with a record given to tenants within twenty eight days.

Cancellation rights in the home
Contracts agreed in a consumer's home are off premises contracts. The consumer has fourteen days to cancel and must be given written notice of that right, or the period extends by up to twelve months.

Quotations and consumer rights
Services must be performed with reasonable care and skill, and price must be reasonable where not fixed. A written quotation with scope and exclusions is what prevents most disputes.
